192

Apologies for not posting last week. There is much to say about Mohali. But I was travelling. I kept a perfunctory glance on the score, making sure we weren't losing. When I checked a couple of days ago, we were meandering, and all was well.

But now I am back home, and this morning, I opened the news, and learnt of Kumble's retirement. And cried. I didn't expect to cry, and I couldn't help it. But there it was. I have watched cricket for 25 years, and Kumble was a part of 18 of them. We may well fare well without him as a team -- Amit Mishra, for instance, did just fine in Mohali. But how will we live without him, as fans? There will be many tributes, and I am not equal to writing one more. But Anil was part of the upholstery, far more solid andd enduring that any tribute can be, than any replacement will be. There will be no other like him.

Farewell, Anil bhai. And, and as a generation of wicket-keepers has said -- shabaash.

My eyes, once again, fill with tears.

Certainly felt a lump in my throat more than once as I was reading the commentary on cricinfo of team mates taking turns to carry the
man who carried the bowling single handedly on several occasions.

While watching the days highlights, tears welled up once again when VVS paid tribute during the presentation.Had to quickly avoid the wife's gaze.

Like many of life's finest things, we will miss him most when he is not around.

I came to US 2 months back for my MS and was trying to get settle in the new environment....sudden retirement of kumble made me felt bad...1993 Hero Cup memories are again revived when I celebrated the (6 wicks for 12 runs) performance of kumble with my family....I just want to wish him gud luck in his future endeavors.

Rahul dravid is also going through a lean patch since quite a long time...I hope he will get a big hundred in nagpur test...I hope he won't have any plans of hanging his bat...

I am from the generation that started watching cricket when sachin, sourav, kumble &co were were just beginnnig to make waves. Now that these are retiring, I feel really old.
